Board & Train

Canine Country Kennels in partnership with Canine Company Dog Training & Behaviour Consulting Services offers an exclusive Boarding School for dogs. Dogs enjoy 100% positive motivational training for basic commands and behaviours. Training can include the basics such as Sit, Down and the all important Come when Called, in addition to behaviours such a walking on a loose leash, politely greeting people and settling on a mat. Training is customized to each individual dog and family so you decide what you want your dog to learn. There is no limit to what your dog can achieve  and old dogs can certainly learn some new tricks as well. All training is done exclusively by Katherine Ferger KPA-CTP.

Why Board & Train?

Teaching your dog basic commands is one of the most important responsibilities of any dog owner. Sometimes though, the amount of time required in early training is much more than anticipated or some dogs have unexpected challenges which can slow down the learning process. We have the time, the experience and the knowledge to train your dog efficiently in a relatively short period of time.

You do not need to be a professional dog trainer to own and handle a well trained dog. Let us do the ground work for you! Our Boarding School is exceptional! Your dog will receive exercise and play sessions and lots of love and affection while staying with us.We can do in two or three weeks what might take some owners several months to learn and practice in only once weekly classes. Quite simply, we have the time you may not.

How Does it Work?

Prior to booking your dog for a Board & Train program you will need to have a consultation where your goals will be discussed and their suitability to our program. A personalized plan will be designed and goal commands and behaviours will be identified. This needs to be done within one week of your dog being signed in.

We will video tape certain sessions a provide a written log and report on training progression and outcomes. Upon returning home you will have a two to three hour one on one consultation where we first demonstrate what your dog has learned and then we show you how to now maintain these behaviours in your dog. We will also give you video of your dog demonstrating the goal behaviours outlined in your original training plan so you can see first hand that your dog can do them as well as see how to maintain the behaviour in the real world. We will also show you how to continue on with training and to continue to reinforce what your dog has learned so they do not slip back into old bad habits. We are available for follow up as well by email and telephone to touch base about any questions you may have the first few weeks back at home.

Does Board & Train Work?

YES! It can! Our particular program is successful where others have failed for several reasons. We rely on positive training methods based on proven scientific principles of learning. Dogs who learn this way are reliable and can transfer behaviour easier to anyone else who used the same methods. So what your dog learns with us, he/she can do with any member of your family employing the same positive and motivational techniques we will show you upon graduation at the return to home session.

We train for real life, not the obedience ring or training hall. So your dog learns things like settling on a mat while we watch TV, walking on a loose leash on the country roads of Essa and on the sidewalks in downtown Barrie. Recalls are taken outside to real parks with real distractions. If we only trained in a training hall it would be unfair to then expect your dog to perform these behaviours for you back in the real world where you live. We train in the real world for the real world!

The success of our program also relies on your expectations and your commitment to follow through and maintain what your dog has learned. Our pre boarding session with help you set realistic goals and we will individualize the training programs to your life and the needs and abilities of your dog and your family. We will also figure out how long a stay your dog will likely require at our facility. Most dogs average a three week stay depending on what is being trained and the point we are starting from.

Our one on one session upon bringing your dog back to your home will ensure you have the skills and knowledge to keep your dog trained and to transfer all their new commands and behaviours to your home and life. Our taped sessions and written reports give you a chance to go over anything needing clarification and we are always here for follow up via telephone or email whenever you need it!

Walks, hikes and play time are an integral part of our programs success rate as well.

The fees include all training sessions, boarding fees, walking/hiking and exercise fees as well as one in home, one on one private session when your dog returns home.
